Overview
City Power Johannesburg is a state-owned electricity utility wholly owned by the City of Johannesburg. Its Smart Meter Implementation Programme places intelligent energy meters in homes and businesses that send usage data to a central hub, enabling active management of electricity distribution. nVisionIT, with the Edison Power Group, integrated smart-metering infrastructure as an IoT deployment in a private cloud.
Outcomes & impact
Demand and usage can now be measured, with collection, disconnection, reconnection, outage identification and restoration, load management and meter reading made more efficient. Microsoft recognised the work in its 2015 global awards, naming nVisionIT its worldwide Application Integration Partner of the Year.
