Overview
The MCIA is a public body that monitors and coordinates Mauritius’s cane industry. With several plots abandoned amid global market pressure, the MCIA set out to identify abandoned lands for re-purposing. With nVisionIT it implemented a web-based GIS and EDMS platform enabling real-time mapping of over 50,000 plots, centralised access to ownership/lease/cultivation records, and identification of abandoned lands.
Outcomes & impact
The real-time GIS system records and visually identifies the location and status of each plot, helping the MCIA sustain Mauritius’s agro-industrial economy, facilitate land optimisation and support national food security and rural development.
